The Final Comparative Report of EUYOUPART shows that a majority of young Europeans is not very interested in politics - but there is hope that interest increases with age. Young people believe in the effectiveness of voting. It is their most frequent form of participation. And although there is only a minority of political activists the representative democratic system is not in danger - but a significant share of young people is not involved.
Find here the advanced statistical analysis that proved the reliability, validity and comparability of indicators within and across the eight countries the survey was conducted in. Based on these results, EUYOUPART is going to recommend a new instrument to measure political participation of youth in Europe.

Find here the master questionnaire for the EUYOUPART main survey on political participation of youth. This questionnaire was applied in eight countries (Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, and the UK). An advanced statistical analysis will be conducted to prove the reliability, validity and comparability of indicators within and across countries. This report contains a comparative analysis of the national qualitative working papers. It focuses on the comparison of the key aspects "belonging & identity", "politics and democracy", "youth's activities and participation", "opportunity structures" and the "definition of key concepts and terms". The authoring team - Kari Paakunainen, James Sloam and Reingard Spannring - also provide an analysis of focus groups results with non-activists compared to individual interviews with activists. They arrive at recommendations and stimuli for the quantitative work.
Comparative Report and Summary of Quality Guidelines
The qualitative research of EUYOUPART (Jan-Feb 2004) yielded a plethora of rich data about political participation of young people, their understanding of democracy and citizenship and their feelings of belonging. The qualitative research consisted of 2 parts: Interviews with politically active young people and focus groups with politically non-active young people. These national results will form the basis for a comparative analysis across countries.
A further report discusses essential information for the design of the EUYOUPART questionnaire. It outlines the theoretical framework and contains a secondary analysis of existing indicators on political participation, both on the international and the national level. Specifically, it focuses on the European Social Survey.

Deliverable 7: The qualitative research is designed to examine the discourse of young people, which will feed into the quantitative survey works, to help the EUYOUPART-team to ask the right survey questions within the conceptual framework of young people. The report presents guidelines for in-depth interviews, focus groups and qualitative data analysis.

Deliverable 4: The main result of the summary report is that the Member States including Estonia and Slovakia support mostly traditional institutions to increase political participation of young people. Political participation is seen in an adult-orientated manner: Young people should participate in youth organisations; they should accept traditional forms of political participation and integrate themselves in youth orientated organisations.

Deliverable 3: This report is based on work package 3 of EUYOUPART that focuses on the comparison of the political systems in European countries to illustrate the different opportunity structures that shape and influence political participation of youth.

The report presents an overview of European research on political participation of youth. It is a concise and analytical summary of comprehensive national reports that have been produced by the consortium partners.
