Trendminer - EU-Project (2011-2014)

Cooperation of SORA with leading tech partners continues: EU commission funds 3-year-project „Trendminer“.

R&D in a booming field

With the growth of the Internet, millions of texts produced day to day in the realms of science, mass media, business etc. can be accessed online in real-time. A booming new branch of research and business deals with harvesting this data mine and developing practical applications.

In the EU-project LivingKnowledge (2009-2012), SORA participated in cutting edge applied research in digital IE („Information Extraction“). The project „Trendminer“ funded by the European Commission (2011-2014) plugs into the success of LivingKnowledge and will for the first time realize automated analysis of multilingual data in the Web 2.0.

SORA coordinates development of applications in campaigning

The Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) is one of the world’s most renowned institute in the field of innovative software technologies and will coordinate Trendminer. SORA brings in its expertise in textual analysis as well is its practical experience in political research and campaign consulting and will in the context of the project lead the work package on development of applications in political trendmining.
At the pulse of trends

The data produced minute by minute from formal newswires to informal platforms such as Twitter grows exponentially and is a sensitive barometer of political and economic trends. The challenge of „Trendminer“: cluster and sort these multi-lingual and often colloquial data, summarize it and analyze such aspects as time series and attitudes.

These innovative software applications have a large potential for market research or communications management. The development of themes and opinions over time or reactions towards new events can be observed automatically and in real-time – as well as comparatively in different countries and languages. New trends or critical changes in public opinion can hence be detected early on.
